Renting a UAV and ordering a flight solve different organizational problems. When renting, you receive an agreed set of equipment and organize its use within the limits of the agreement. When ordering aerial work, the execution of the task by the contractor's team and the communication of the agreed result are discussed.
The choice begins with three questions: what data is needed, who will fly the flight, and who is responsible for processing the materials. The presence of a device in itself does not provide the desired examination result.
| Question | Renting a complex | Contractor departure |
|---|---|---|
| What is consistent | Set, period of use, condition and conditions of transfer. | Task, territory, scope of work and transferred materials. |
| Who does the work | Trained customer team or other agreed composition. | The performing team within the agreed project. |
| What is required from the customer | Ready for use and a clear plan for using the equipment. | Data requirements, object information and access conditions. |
| Material processing | Organized separately; rent does not mean a ready-made analytical report. | Included only to the extent explicitly agreed upon. |
| Result criterion | Transfer and return of the agreed configuration under the terms of the contract. | Compliance of materials with the specifications and acceptance criteria. |
Renting may be suitable if the customer has a trained team, a clear script and the ability to independently organize work with equipment and data. It also allows you to test the selected configuration in an agreed scenario before deciding to form a permanent complex.
Before approval, it is important to clarify not only the model of the device, but also the payload, ground station, power supply, storage devices, consumables and support. The availability of a specific complex and acceptable conditions for its use are checked upon request.
If a certain set of materials is needed, but you do not have your own flight team or suitable equipment, it makes sense to discuss the execution of the task by a contractor. In this case, the source document becomes a task for the result, and not just a list of equipment.
For a visual inspection, this may be a coordinated photo archive linked to objects; for another scenario, initial measurements or materials for further processing. The specific format, completeness of coverage, detail and composition of the reporting must be determined before the start of work.
Information about airspace restrictions and required operating procedures should be verified for a specific area and date. The brief must identify those responsible for this review and approval of access.
For both formats, the boundaries of responsibility are important: who prepares the site, checks the completeness, monitors the technical condition, stores materials and records comments. Separately, actions are determined in the event of inappropriate weather, inaccessibility of an object, or inability to obtain the required data.
For rental, the procedure for acceptance and return, maintenance and actions in case of malfunction are additionally agreed upon. For aerial work - the composition of the initial and processed materials, the method of transfer and acceptance criteria. This is a list of discussion points and not universal AERIS terms.
If the team and operation process are already ready, compare renting the required configuration with other ways to provide the project with equipment. If you need the result of an inspection without organizing your own air stage, start with an assignment for the contractor’s work.
When the sensor type has not yet been determined, it will help analysis of payload selection. For regular missions check also readiness for UAS operation.
On the page aerial operations and UAS rentals The directions of work of AERIS are described. Submit the task and site conditions - the project format, available equipment and the composition of the result are clarified individually.
